The ministry said there are 1,000 vacant positions for Quran teachers and religious experts that should be filled up in 2022 and 2023, Jazaiers website reported.

Top contenders in the upcoming competition will be selected to serve as teachers of Quran, religious affairs officials and imams of mosques, according to the ministry.

Also, 250 of the participants will be employed as muezzins (those reciting the Adhan or call to prayer), it said.

It noted that those willing to teach the Quran or serve as muezzins are required to have a Quran memorization certificate valid for at least two years.

Planning, holding and supervising Quranic and religious activities and programs are among the responsibilities of the Awqaf and Religious Affairs Ministry.

Algeria is an Arab country in North Africa. Muslims make up about ninety-nine percent of the country’s population.
